Braydon Babbs: From Engineering Beginnings to Crafting Timeless Hits

The multifaceted artist shares his journey, inspirations, and what’s next in his evolving music career.

Today we have the pleasure to have Braydon on Goathead

GHR: Great to have you with us. What inspired you to start writing music?

Braydon Babbs:  It’s funny, it actually never started with writing. Around 2008, I became fascinated with the idea of trying my hand at vocal engineering and mastering once I heard different electronic plug-ins (vocoders, talk-box, and flangers) being used on projects like Daft Punk Homework or the Britney Spears Blackout album. It just evolved from there. Eventually, I taught myself the engineering ropes and would record my own vox using Mixcraft (shoutout Acoustica). That led to working with various producers and writing on their beats.

GHR: What inspirations—artists, genres, or anything else—have you had that may have influenced your artistry along the way?

Braydon Babbs: I’m a weird melting pot of oldies, early 00’s R&B, and pop. I’m obsessed with 70’s and 80’s culture, so a lot of my songs are inspired by that time period. I’m definitely a Janet & Prince junkie. I love Delegation, ELO, Spandau Ballet, The 1975, Kaytranada… there are honestly way too many to count!

GHR: How is your process of songwriting set around?

Braydon Babbs: A lot of times for lyrics, I will just start with a title and build a story around that. The top-line usually starts with a mumble or a hum in my head. Then I combine the two and add my harmonies and ad-libs after. That’s my favorite part.

GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?

Braydon Babbs: I think for me, it’s always based on a feeling. Whether it’s sexy R&B or something more thought-provoking, I want it to resonate with people and make them feel good or understood. I try to put thoughts, ideas, and a vocal delivery out there that will evoke that in people.

GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

Braydon Babbs: My album will be coming out at the top of the year, so I’m super excited about that. Then, I just want to keep working with different producers and continue promoting, recording, and exploring. I’d love to do something more rock-influenced next, so we’ll see.
