Today we have the pleasure to have Emilia on Goathead Records!
GHR: Hi Emilia, great to have you here. What inspired you to start writing music?
Emilia: Thanks for having me. It's a wonderful journey! I've been singing since I was a little girl, but for the longest time, I struggled to believe in myself enough to put out my own songs. The thought of expressing my feelings in song lyrics felt vulnerable. Then, about two years ago, I started a YouTube channel called Polish Girl in Texas, and that was a game-changer for me. It helped me build my confidence and find my voice. Yes, I'm Polish!;) One day, I posted a cover song on social media, and that caught the attention of a music producer and songwriter who believed in my talent. Even though we didn't end up working together, it was the push and motivation I needed. Finally, on a very emotional day, I wrote my first original song. It was such a fun and creative experience. Better late than never, right?
GHR: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs and what was the most memorable experience you had?
Emilia: Years ago, I had the incredible opportunity to perform at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York and on various TV shows in Poland. I even made it to the semi-finals of the first season of Polish Idol. However, I took a break from performing to focus on completing architecture and interior design degree, marriage, and being a mom for about 15 years. Coming back to music now feels like coming home. I feel more at ease, more accomplished as a woman. It's just so much more fun this time around!
GHR: How is your process of songwriting set around?
Emilia: I'm not the best guitar or piano player, but I know my notes and chords. My songwriting process usually starts with a catchy hook that pops into my head. The words then flow into melodies, often when I'm driving around Texas - we do a lot of driving here! I make sure to record all my ideas because inspiration can strike anytime. When I get back home, I polish the melodies and lyrics. Each new idea gets captured on my phone, usually just me singing a cappella. I've come to appreciate the magic of a catchy melody paired with the perfect lyrics.
GHR: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?
Emilia: Creating music is a thrilling journey for me. It begins with a simple hook and a few words and blossoms into a full collaboration with producers, recording in a studio, and working with incredibly talented people. The moment when I hear the final song is so fulfilling. It's like discovering a new part of myself creatively. There's no greater joy than knowing that people enjoy the music you create.
GHR: Could you share some insights into your next projects?
Emilia: "Energy High" marked the start of my return as a singer. It was produced by Grammy winner Philip Larsen, who perfectly captured the tropical Latin and European dance vibe I was going for. The song reflects my vibrant and sociable nature - I adore traveling and dancing, and my friends are always up for an adventure. In the music video, two of my friends, who are fantastic Zumba instructors, joined me, and we had an absolute blast.
Now, my upcoming project is a departure from the upbeat vibe. "My Time," produced by Jeff Jacobs, a former member of Foreigner and renowned pianist, is a special ballad that talks about life struggles and truly showcases my love for music and singing. We incorporated real drums and a local gospel sound. When I was writing the song, I envisioned a gospel choir accompanying me and I can't wait for you to hear it when it drops on Friday, January 31st, 2025. Stay tuned!
