Today We Have The Pleasure To Have This Great Artist Here On Goathead!

GH: Hello there, Ginamaya! Welcome to Goathead What inspired you to start writing music?

Ginamaya: I've been writing songs since elementary school, ranging from girl group pop-style creations to heartfelt ballads. I recall a moment of realization that not everyone had the same answer to the commonly asked question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

GH: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs, and what was the most memorable experience you had?

Ginamaya: My earliest experiences included lip sync contests, choirs, and talent shows. My favorite performance was debuting new music at Burlington Bar when I was 7 months pregnant, making it a memorable and vibrant night.

GH: How is your process of songwriting set around?

Ginamaya: The handy-dandy notes app is always a go-to when lyrics pop into the mind. Stacking samples, some homemade, some from fellow humanity, get chopped, reversed, and flipped upside down until I feel ready to add a top line. The process is a mix of surprise and not feeling entirely in charge.

GH: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?

Ginamaya: Do I choose to create music, or does music emerge through me? It's a bit of both. Ignoring either my ambition or the creative signals pulsing through space and time feels incomplete. There's an intrinsic creative energy in being a living being, and group bliss at live shows is akin to ancient rituals around a fire.

GH: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

Ginamaya: My upcoming release "Miss Moon" is a compilation of four songs, influenced by my daughter Ayla and incorporating unique samples. It sits between indie and pop, with elements of world music and cerebral arrangements. I want to keep allowing the creative flow to come through.
