GH: Hey Jon, Great to have you here! What inspired you to start writing music?

Jon Torello: I was influenced at an early age by my father’s 60's music on constant play in the car. One of my earliest childhood memories is driving with my dad on a snowy night when Procol Harum’s "A Whiter Shade of Pale" came on the radio. Hearing that unmistakable organ in the intro shook me to the core, and I never looked at the world or felt the same about music after that. My journey with music continued through experimenting with different instruments in my teen years, and discovering albums like Nine Inch Nails' "Pretty Hate Machine" sparked a desire to create music that moved me. This inspiration eventually led me to start writing my own songs.

GH: How would you describe your songwriting process?

Jon Torello: Songwriting has always been entirely based on feel for me. New songs typically come by just playing around on the guitar or piano until a chord progression or melody catches me. I let the inspiration flow naturally and reserve any judgment until later. I've probably written over half of my lyrics while running in the woods as I type them into my phone.

GH: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?

Jon Torello: I've always been drawn to art and storytelling, and music has the power to express the deepest truths that we all know as human beings. Most of my songs have themes centered around introspection, our changing society, and looking beyond pairs of opposites to heal the world by healing ourselves. My music is a work of love and healing through self-expression, and I hope it inspires others to speak their truth and stand up for themselves.

GH: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

Jon Torello: I have several songs ready to be released in the coming months, with each telling a story connected to a larger narrative that spans across all of my music. The order of releases may change with new songs slotted in, as I've recently been writing a lot. Just this morning, a song started coming to me while out on a run in the forest, and it feels connected to my last release "Janus." The working title is "Civil War."
