We have the pleasure to have Libba on Goathead!

GH: Hi Libba, Great to have you here! What inspired you to pursue a career in music, and who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Libba: Hi! I’ve always had a lot of love and respect for musical theater – it’s really where music took hold of me. Having a story that is driven though acting and song is really special. There’s a lot of drama to it and it’s a lot of fun to perform. I credit musical theater for awakening a love for music – the memorable melodies and sharp, emotional lyrics that transport you. I chose to study music and really invest in learning about different genres. It’s truly a passion for me and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m so thankful for my family. They support me unconditionally and are on the journey with me. When it came time to apply to college, I saw many friends give up on their creative dreams to study something their parents thought would provide for a more stable future. But my family understood my passion for music and encouraged me to major in it. And it was a wonderful music education, it really opened my eyes to many aspects of creating, performing and production. My family are my biggest fans, and their encouragement means the world to me.

GH: Can you tell us about your creative process when it comes to songwriting and how you bring your ideas to life?

Libba: When it comes to creating my music there is no one step process. Sometimes a melody pops in my head, and the majority of the time I am somewhere and a lyric pops in my head that I write down. When I fully commit to that spark of a sound/lyric I sit with myself and my emotions and force myself to write down my feelings. While in the process of writing, self-criticism sneaks in and the negativity of creativity tries to become a writer’s block to my music. However, I talk myself into getting over that road-block by saying to myself, “If I am currently feeling this way, I know someone out there in the world can relate in their own way to what I am trying to relay.” Once I’m finished writing I think of sounds that relate to the emotion of the song. For instance, if I write a breakup song with a lot of anger in my heart I personally won’t make it a soft, piano ballad, but instead I will relay my anger through “louder” sounding music (electric guitar, drums, power vocals). Every path to songwriting is different, but the overall goal is to (a) create closure for myself and (b) pass a message across that can help someone in any sort of way through what they are going through whether happy, sad, or mad.

GH: Your music often explores themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. What message do you hope to convey to your fans through your lyrics?

Libba: I hope to convey a message of joy and healing for my listeners. Drawing from my own experiences, I hope each listener can feel/hear my emotions infused in each track while also conveying relatable stories to my listeners. My ultimate goal is to connect with my audience on a deeply personal level, allowing them to find their own stories within the lyrics. Through my music, I hope to inspire listeners to embrace their feelings and experiences, knowing they are not alone in their journey.

GH: Your new single, "Daydream," is set to be released on May 12th. Can you give us a sneak peek into what inspired this song and what fans can expect from it?

Libba: The inspiration behind “Daydream” comes from the all too familiar situation of developing feelings for a close friend and the longing to take the relationship to the next level. Throughout the song, fans can expect to go on a musical journey both lyrically and instrumentally with each emotion that arises when you start developing more intimate feelings for someone you’ve already known. The upcoming single "Daydream" is set to take listeners on a romantic journey of uncertainty and hope.

GH: As a rising artist in the pop music scene, what are some of your goals for the future, and how do you plan to continue evolving as a pop artist?

Libba: I hope to have my music touch many people across the globe! For the future, my main goal is the release of my first debut album at the end of September, 2023. After my debut album sets off, I hope to tour up and down California and later beyond the U.S. Everyday I am evolving as an artist and songwriter, but trying to absorb as much information as I can. Whether that be through past mentors, self-experiences, or meeting other aspiring talented artists! The last thing I want is to be dissatisfied with music because at the end of the day music is the universal outlet/celebration for everyone.
