Today We Have The Pleasure To Have This Great Artist Here On Goathead!

GH: Hey Guys! You Are Our First Japanese Artist! Welcome What inspired you to start writing music?

My New Gear: Jon started playing classical piano at the age of 3 and electric guitar in middle school. Tim and Ben are self-taught since the band boom in high school. The three of them became creators at a Japanese game company. Pete and Roger are self-taught with a background in electronic music using synthesizers. Cage studied music technology at an engineering school. What we have in common is that we like spaghetti, fried chicken, and curry rice.

All the members had one thing in common: they all started writing songs because they wanted to be liked by their lovers.

GH: Can you tell us more about your experience performing live at gigs in Japan and what was the most memorable experience you had, and how’s the independent music scene over there?

My New Gear: People who listened to our music said, "I bought a guitar too, so can I play your music?" and we said, "Of course, that's what we built it for." And someone else said, "Your music is modern and cool. The guitars that intersect with the songs feel like Jimi Hendrix descended." I was happy. It feels like Japan's independent music is experiencing a revival of the band boom. Guitars, basses, and pianos started to become popular again just after the onset of COVID-19. So many musicians were composing music at home.

GH: How is your band process of songwriting set around?

My New Gear: First, Jon writes the lyrics and composes the song. Then I gather the band members and proceed with the arrangement. At the same time, we will work with the art team to create artwork.

GH: What motivates you to create music and bring awareness to different situations through your songs?

My New Gear: Just like BONJOVI and PINK FLOYD once gave us hope, we want to create songs that will remain in history and memories for years to come. There is a custom that is popular in Japan, when you purchase a new instrument or equipment, you tweet #MY NEW GEAR or #MNG and post a photo of MY NEW GEAR. I liked it so much that I chose it as the name of the band. MY NEW GEAR, create and release new songs. That's our concept.

GH: Could you share some insights into your next projects?

My New Gear: We are currently working on our third album. Also, in 2024, we will release music videos for 30 songs. It took about 20 years to release your debut albums "As Above, So Below" and "As Within, So Without" at the same time, but I think it won't take that long to release your third album. We learned that our music genre is rock, alternative rock, progressive rock, or hard rock because our listeners put it on their Spotify playlists.

Thank you. We, MY NEW GEAR, would like to realize the same kind of relationship that Pink Floyd and Hypnosis once built. We'll create music, videos, and artwork so that the audience can come in and enjoy it.
