GHR: What first got you into music?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: Both of my parents were born in the same era that hip hop was created. My mother being a pioneer of music, especially hip hop, led to me being a student of the craft at an early age. My father was also an MC and had an opportunity to be signed as an artist in the mid 80's. Rappers didn't make a lot of money back then so due to the fact that he lived the life that most rappers talked about in their lyrics, he chose to continue that lifestyle because at the time it was more profitable than having a music career.

GHR: Who inspired you to do music?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: Both of my parents. Even though they are the ones that introduced me to music, I've also been inspired by my uncles to do music as well because they pursued music careers throughout their lifetime. Nevertheless, I am inspired by every piece of music that I hear and experience, whether it comes from the greats who have graced the music industry or a local act that I was lucky enough to witness. I have been inspired by virtually every musical artist throughout history.

GHR: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: The music that I create is very complex. I think at its core, it is spiritual. It embodies philosophies that can inspire illumination in one's mind but simultaneously embracing the dark side of our existence that our consciousness resides in. I would like to think that I create a universal atmosphere for all listeners to gain something of their preference from my music.

GHR: What is your creative process like?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: I used to write lyrics down as I listened to beats when I first started creating. Nowadays, I'm usually creating songs in my head 24/7 so by the time I link with a producer or a collaborative artist to create, I just go straight to recording and freestyling any loose ends right there on the spot. So I would say my creative process is spontaneous at best.

GHR: Who would you most like to collaborate with?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: I would like to collaborate with any serious artist who desires to collaborate with me. Famous or not, if the feeling is mutual.

Q: If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: Any artist that is willing to allow me to open up for them.

Q: What is one message you would give to your fans?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: Believe in yourself or nobody will.

Q: What is the most useless talent you have?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: I can't die.

Q: Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: Yes, I do sing in the shower, lol. A lot of my own songs have been created there.

Q: What would you be doing now if it wasn't for your music career?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: If I wasn't recording music, I'd be trying to save the world.

Q: Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: I've performed in Charleston, NC, also in Fayetteville and Raleigh, NC. My favorite venues to perform at are culturally diverse venues. I don't really like to perform at inner city clubs but I will if I have to. At the moment, I do not have any upcoming shows as I am going through artist development.

Q: How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?SHAUN

BLACKHEART: I feel that the internet impacted the music business in a sense that it created a more global market for independent creators and labels alike.

Q: What is your favorite song to perform?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: All of my songs are my favorite to perform. In other words, I have no particular favorite.

Q: Which famous musicians do you admire?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: I admire every single last one of them who have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

Q: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: I wouldn't change anything, we can only change ourselves.

Q: What is next for you?

SHAUN BLACKHEART: Time will tell all.
