Today we have the pleasure to have Valiant The Pink here on Goathead!
GH: Hi Valiant! Great to have you here! Your new single "Easy," featuring Teddy Truman, has been getting a lot of attention lately. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the song and what it was like working with Teddy on it?
Valiant The Pink: This song, like many of my other songs, draws inspiration from fantasy and video games, and Easy is no exception. It specifically takes inspiration from the game Cyberpunk 2077, where the main character, V, struggles with an internal battle against a chaotic personality that gradually takes control of their mind, leaving them empty. As the character gains material wealth, they also lose their sanity and sense of self, which is why I titled the song Easy. It explores the idea that while someone's life may appear effortless on the surface or on social media, in reality, some of us are grappling with our own inner struggles, although perhaps not in the same way as others. The collaboration with Ted was a perfect fit for this song because he genuinely understood the message and conveyed it from the heart, as he often does in his music. It's always a pleasure to make connections with talented individuals who become friends along the way.
GH: You have a very distinct and powerful voice that sets you apart from other artists in the industry. How did you develop your vocal style, and who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Valiant The Pink: My journey in music restarted around three years ago after completing my degree in Music Technology. Prior to that, I had been involved in musical theatre from the age of four until eighteen. Initially, music was a source of enjoyment and a means to connect with others, but I later pursued the academy of arts program at Fullerton High School in California, where I honed my vocal skills. My training encompassed various styles, including classical choral music, opera, and diverse genres of musical theatre. When it comes to my vocal style, I draw influence from an interesting combination of artists: Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dave Bayley from Glass Animals. These individuals have had the greatest impact on shaping my own unique style. Additionally, my writing inspiration stems from fantasy films, stories, and video games, which fuel my creative process.
GH: Your music often incorporates themes of empowerment and self-acceptance. How important is it for you to use your platform as an artist to spread positive messages, and what message do you hope to convey to your fans through your music?
Valiant The Pink: Throughout my life, I've always possessed a strong voice, yet expressing myself verbally never felt entirely comfortable. However, through the journey of self-acceptance, embracing all my flaws included, I have learned to surround myself with people who appreciate the best version of myself. My message to those who listen to my music is that the world can often be cold and dark, but within that darkness, we discover strength and a relentless pursuit of light. The light may not always shine brightly, but in people and moments of bliss, we have the power to make it radiate ourselves.
GH: Can you share with us a particularly memorable moment or experience from your music career so far and how it has impacted you as an artist?
Valiant The Pink: I have two memorable moments that stand out. The first occurred when I performed at an open mic in Palm Springs, CA. It surpassed my expectations, and the audience genuinely loved my music. The second moment was when I realized that I could combine my passion for video games, particularly fantasy RPGs, with my music. After writing my first song, "Searching," inspired by the story of the game Dragon Age Inquisition, I recognized the potent combination of profound messages of change and rebellion with Indie-Pop music. A fellow artist and friend, NuKarma, who is featured on "Searching," often described my music as small movies, and I strive for the audience to connect with that experience.
GH: What can fans expect from you in the future? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're excited to share with your audience?
Valiant The Pink: Recently, I released an EP titled "Together," which I took charge of mixing and mastering for the first time. This new role as my own mixing and mastering artist has brought me a greater sense of unity with my music. "Together" consists of five songs that transform the adventures of Dungeons and Dragons into Indie/Pop compositions. Additionally, I am currently working on two
Singles that will be released over the summer, and inSeptember, I have plan to unveil a full-length album called"Shepard."
